Camden hikes permit costs by 70% for the average car
Camden Council has announced that residents' parking permits are to increase by 70% for the average car in April - and by a minimum of 30% for all cars.
This would make Camden's parking permits the most expensive ordinary residents' parking permits in England. Meanwhile, in Westminster, no resident pays more than £145, and permits for electric vehicles are free.
Camden has claimed that this is to reduce CO2 emissions, but nothing could be further from the truth. If it were, why would the council be increasing permit charges by 30% for electric cars and the lowest-emission vehicles, too?
Instead, it is simply a new tax on residents' parking. This is despite that being clearly unlawful.
